Meet Rosanna – SMUD Board President

Climate Leader

Rosanna has been a key part of SMUD for the past 20 years working on projects that have included economic development agreements for Apple, Intel, and McClellan Park. These are projects that created new jobs and strengthened the local economy.  

She has twice been elected to the SMUD Board and currently serves as President. Under her leadership SMUD continues to lead the nation in removing all carbon from its power supply by 2030. She is the first gay member to serve on the SMUD Board.

Community

Rosanna is the Development Chair for the Sacramento History Museum and serves on the Sacramento LGBT Center’s “Welcome Home” Committee committed to raising $5.5 million to purchase its home. She has received several honors for her community service, including a Pride Award from the California State Legislature, a Community Advocate Award from Equality California and the “Freedom from Want” Award from Sacramento Stonewall.

Public Service

Rosanna is a proud Democrat.  She came to Sacramento over 40 years ago and started working for a local city council member. One of her first projects was starting the “Trees for Tomorrow” campaign, a successful 10-year effort to plant one million trees.

A native of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Rosanna graduated from Indiana University (Bloomington) with degrees in psychology, with honors, and Spanish. She also earned an MBA from Saint Mary’s College (Moraga.) She and her wife of over 30 years live in Curtis Park with their darling dogs, Kep, Chelsea, and Abby.
